A labia chain is a piece of intimate jewellery designed to adorn the labial area — the outer or inner labia — without piercing the skin.
It is one of the most searched categories in intimate body jewellery, and one of the least well-documented. Most of what exists online is either vague, inaccurate, or not written by anyone with experience designing or wearing this type of jewellery.
This guide is written by Pilar, who has been designing labial and clitoral adornments since 2012.
What Is a Labia Chain?
A labia chain is typically a lightweight chain or structured piece that drapes across, clips to, or tensions around the labial area. Depending on the design, it may:
— Clip gently to the outer labia using a tension or clip mechanism — Drape between two clip points on either side — Connect to a waist chain or body chain as part of a larger piece — Sit as a standalone ornament with a single clip or tension point
Non-piercing labia chains are entirely reversible. They do not require any modification to the body and can be put on and removed at will.
How Does a Non-Piercing Labia Chain Work?
The mechanism varies by design. At REPIOR, our labial pieces use one of three approaches:
Tension clip
A small, hand-formed wire clip that holds gently on the outer labia using light, adjustable tension. This is the most common and most comfortable mechanism for everyday wear. The tension is set during making and can be adjusted if needed.
Wrap design
A piece that wraps around a fold of labial tissue using a curved wire structure. These are more sculptural and more complex to fit — they are always made to order after a conversation about anatomy and comfort.
Chain connector
A labia chain that forms part of a larger body piece — connecting to a waist chain above or a thigh piece below. These are our most architectural designs and are always bespoke commissions.
Is a Labia Chain Safe to Wear?
Yes — when it is made correctly, fitted properly, and worn with attention to comfort.
The key safety considerations are:
— Material: only wear body-safe metals against intimate skin. At REPIOR, we use hypoallergenic copper, stainless steel, and aluminium. No plating, no coatings, no cheap alloys. — Fit: the piece must not pinch, grip excessively, or restrict circulation. If you feel numbness, tingling, or discomfort, remove it immediately. — Hygiene: Clean the piece before and after wearing. Store it dry and separate from other jewellery. — Wear time: start with short sessions — 30 to 60 minutes — and build up gradually.

How to Choose a Labia Chain
Consider your anatomy
Labial anatomy varies enormously. What works for one person will not work for another. This is why made-to-order matters so much in this category. A generic sizing will not give you a comfortable, wearable piece.
Consider your intended use
Is this for occasional intimate wear, or something you want to wear for longer periods? Occasional wear gives you more freedom with weight and complexity. Longer wear requires lighter materials (aluminum) and simpler mechanisms.
Consider the aesthetic

How to Put On a Labia Chain
Instructions vary by piece — every REPIOR order comes with specific fitting guidance. Generally:
1. Ensure the piece is clean 2. Find the clip or tension point and identify where it will sit 3. Apply gently, checking comfort immediately. 4. Adjust tension if the piece is adjustable — it should hold without gripping. 5. Move normally for a few minutes to check security and comfort 6. Remove immediately if you feel any discomfort
How to Care for a Labia Chain
— Rinse with clean water after wearing — Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth — do not leave wet — For copper: restore with a little lemon juice if needed — For steel and aluminium: a dry polish is sufficient — Store in the REPIOR pouch or a soft cloth, individually
