A clit clamp is a small piece of intimate jewellery that rests on the clitoral hood and holds by gentle pressure, without any piercing. Used well, it adds a quiet, constant awareness of a part of the body we rarely adorn. This guide explains what a clit clamp is, how it works, and how to use one comfortably and safely, step by step, from a UK studio that has been making non-piercing intimate jewellery by hand since 2012.

What is a clit clamp?

The term covers two quite different objects. A tweezer clamp is a small adjustable clamp, often with a sliding ring, designed for sensation play: it grips firmly and is worn for a short time. A clit clip (sometimes called a VCH clip, after the vertical clitoral hood piercing it imitates) is jewellery: a softer, shaped piece that sits over the clitoral hood and holds by light tension, so it can be worn for longer and for the way it looks as much as for the way it feels.

Most people searching for a clit clamp for the first time are better served by a clip. It gives the look of a hood piercing with no needle, no healing time and nothing permanent, and the sensation is subtle rather than intense. Every REPIOR piece is of this kind: hand-formed wire that rests over the hood, never a clamp that bites.

How does a clit clamp work?

A clit clamp works by light, even pressure on the clitoral hood, the fold of skin that covers and protects the clitoris. That pressure does two things. It keeps the piece in place, and it gently draws attention to the area, so many wearers describe a soft, continuous awareness and heightened sensitivity rather than a sharp feeling. Some designs add a dangle, a pearl or small bells, which move with the body and add a little weight and sound.

There is also a pressure-free option. A magnetic clit clip such as REPIOR AXIS uses two small magnets that meet through the skin of the hood, so it stays in place by attraction instead of tension. It is the lightest touch possible and a good choice if you are unsure about pressure.

How to use a clit clamp, step by step

  1. Start clean and relaxed. Wash your hands and the piece with warm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap, then dry both well. Choose a moment with no rush.
  2. Get to know the piece first. Hold it in your fingers and feel how it opens and closes. With wire jewellery, a very small adjustment changes the hold, so open or close it a fraction at a time, never all at once.
  3. Find the hood. With one hand, gently lift the skin of the clitoral hood between thumb and finger. The piece sits on the hood itself, not on the clitoris (the glans) underneath.
  4. Place it and let go slowly. Slide the open side over the fold of skin, then release gradually and let the tension or the magnets settle. It should feel secure, like a firm touch, never pinching.
  5. Check the fit. Move, sit and stand. If it slips, close it very slightly. If it pinches, throbs or feels tight, take it off and open it a little. Comfort is the only rule.
  6. Remove it gently. Lift the hood again and ease the piece off in the opposite direction. Wipe it clean and let it dry before storing.

How long can you wear a clit clamp?

Start with short sessions of 10 to 15 minutes and build up only if it stays completely comfortable. A tighter tweezer clamp should only ever be worn briefly. A light clip can be worn longer, but always listen to your body: any numbness, tingling, coldness or a change of colour means it is too tight or has been on too long, and it should come off straight away. Never sleep in intimate jewellery.

Clit clip or tweezer clamp: which should you choose?

Choose a clip if you want jewellery: something beautiful to wear under clothing, for yourself or for a partner, with a gentle and lasting sensation. Choose a tweezer clamp only if you are specifically looking for brief, intense sensation play, and keep sessions short. If you are new to this, begin with a clip. You can always explore further later.

Does a clit clamp hurt?

It should not. A well-fitted clit clip feels like a light, steady touch. Pain is a sign that the piece is too tight, placed on the clitoris instead of the hood, or has been worn too long. Adjust it or remove it, and try again another day. Adornment should feel like a pleasure, never like an endurance test.

Materials and care

Our clit clips are hand-formed from copper (in silver, gold or rose gold finishes), surgical-grade stainless steel and lightweight aluminium. Steel is the most resistant to tarnish; copper and aluminium are lighter and easier to adjust. If you have sensitive skin or known metal allergies, choose steel and check the materials on each product page. Clean your piece before and after every wear with mild soap and water, dry it thoroughly and store it on its own in a soft pouch. For more, read our safety and care guide for intimate jewellery.

Frequently asked questions

What does a clit clamp do?

It applies gentle pressure to the clitoral hood, which increases awareness and sensitivity in the area. As jewellery, it also adorns a part of the body that is rarely celebrated, privately or for a partner.

What does a clit clamp feel like?

A well-fitted clip feels like a light, steady touch that you are aware of without it being uncomfortable. Pieces with dangles or bells add a soft movement as you walk.

How do you put a clit clamp on?

Lift the clitoral hood gently between thumb and finger, slide the open side of the piece over the fold of skin, and release slowly so it settles. It should sit on the hood, never on the clitoris itself.

Are clit clamps safe?

Yes, when the piece is clean, made from body-safe metal, fitted lightly and worn for short periods to begin with. Remove it at once if you feel pain, numbness or tingling, and do not wear it on broken or irritated skin.

Can I wear a clit clip under clothes?

Yes. Small clips without long dangles sit discreetly under underwear, which is exactly why many people choose them: a private detail no one else knows about.
